Updates for residents and businesses near the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant site.

Activated sludge reactor design finalised for tender

The initial design for the new Activated Sludge Reactor is now complete and has been issued to contractors as part of the tender process.

Contracts for construction monitoring (CA) and construction administration (CA) have also been awarded, ensuring independent oversight throughout the build.

Tendering for the main construction contract is underway, with work expected to begin once a contractor is confirmed. Site establishment and construction are expected to start by the end of this year or early in the new year.

The new reactor will be a substantial structure (67m x 67m and 7m high), housing a blower room to mix air with incoming wastewater. The design process has been accelerated by working closely with contractors and making use of 3D design technology. Once construction begins, our goal is to move quickly, with commissioning of the plant currently targeted for 2028.
