Welcome to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. From the spring drifts of daffodils, spectacular summer roses, stunning autumn leaf displays and cosy conservatories to explore over winter, there's something to delight in every season.

COVID-19 update: The Botanic Gardens are open

The Botanic Gardens and buildings are within the Gardens are open under alert level 2. To help keep everyone well, please continue to maintain a 2 metre distance from other people when you’re out and about and wash your hands before and after using equipment in our gardens.

The following are now open:

  • All parks and gardens
  • Public toilets
  • Playgrounds, play equipment or exercise equipment in parks
  • Visitor and information centres
  • Dog parks
  • The Botanic Gardens
  • Boat ramps and wharves
  • Cemeteries

Visitor Centre & ilex Cafe 9am to 4pm daily
Conservatories 10am to 4pm daily

Te Mara Huaota o Waipapa

Te Mara Huaota o Waipapa is the Maori name, gifted by Ngāi Tahu, for the Gardens. It translates as the Botanical Gardens of Waipapa, Waipapa being the name of the area along the Ōtākaro–Avon River where the Gardens are located.
