It's important for all road users in Christchurch to take responsibility for staying safe by adjusting their speed to the conditions and posted limits, avoiding distractions and being alert at intersections.
In Ōtautahi-Christchurch, there were more than 9400 crashes in the five-year period between 2018 and 2022. Of those crashes, 66 people died and 603 people were seriously injured.
Our Road Safety Action Plan
Christchurch has a Road Safety Action Plan [PDF, 596 KB] to identify and record issues to address local road safety issues across infrastructure, road user safety and enforcement.
The plan is a collaboration between Christchurch City Council, Waka Kotahi, ACC, FENZ and New Zealand Police.
