We're upgrading the traffic signals at three busy intersections on Memorial Avenue.

Our work at the intersection of Memorial/Greers is underway

We’re making changes to the traffic signals at three Memorial Avenue intersections by the end of September 2025. This work aims to ease congestion linked to the nearby Ilam wastewater upgrade, where we’ve been installing larger underground pipes since September 2024. See our Newsline story(external link) for more information.

These signal upgrades aim to keep traffic flowing more smoothly through the area, so you'll soon see us working at the intersections of:

Memorial Avenue and Grahams Road / Memorial Avenue and Ilam Road

These traffic signal upgrades will only involve small light phasing changes. This work is expected to take around two weeks and will not create a significant traffic impact for people travelling through the area.

Memorial Avenue and Greers Road

Work began at this intersection on Sunday 31 August 2025.

This intersection is seeing a more significant upgrade than the other two, with end-of-service-life traffic lights being replaced to allow for a new right-turn phase from Greers Road (south).

This also includes safety improvements for people walking and crossing the road, with red arrow pedestrian protection and increased separation between crossings.

These changes will help us to balance the needs of everyone using this busy intersection. We're aiming to make it safer for people to cross, while also helping motorists get through with fewer delays.
