On these days, bins for all properties will be collected the day after their normal collection day for the remainder of that week.
We expanded our kerbside collection service in Banks Peninsula on 1 July 2022.
Banks Peninsula residents who do not live on a kerbside collection route can use the community collection points for household rubbish and recycling
The community collection points are either a wheelie bin, skip or a trailer.
Description of the collection point | What can I put in here? | How much can I put in here? |
Trailer, yellow bin or yellow skip | Household recycling | 240 litres (6 small bags per fortnight) |
Red bin or red skip | Household rubbish | 140 litres (4 small bags per fortnight) |
All locations have a recycling collection. All locations except Akaroa and Little River have a rubbish collection.
Find the nearest collection point to you on our interactive map.
Phone the Council if you notice:
The Council offers a rubbish and a recycling collection service for residents and businesses in the inner city.
Properties in the inner city do not pay for rubbish and recycling collection through their rates. Instead, they buy Council rubbish and recycling bags to use the collection service.
You can find out the collection service of your property by using the address look-up tool or the inner city map(external link).
Buy official Council bags from the Civic Offices at 53 Hereford Street. Only official Council rubbish and recycling bags can be used. There is no inner city organics collection.
