If you have two or more properties that share a boundary and have common usage, we may be able to assess them as a single unit. In some cases, this reduces the rates overall.
If your properties are on separate titles the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 requires us to rate them on separate invoices.
However, if you have two or more rating units that are in identical ownership, share a boundary, or are separated only by a road, railway, drain, water race, river or steam, and are used as a single joint unit, then we may be able to assess them as though they were one unit.
This means we will apply the same rates that would have applied if they had been rated as a single unit. For example, the Uniform Annual General Charge would only be charged once on the main rating unit.
Common scenarios include a house with surrounding gardens across two or more titles or a single storage shed business operating across multiple titles. This does not include separate titles with more than one use – for example, two titles that have a dwelling each or two vacant sections.
Please note that contiguous status may not reduce your rates. When we receive your application we will review your circumstances and work through the options with you.
