Christchurch Radicals Bike Tour

Christchurch – stuffy and conservative? Far from it. Radical educationalists, sex reformers, and peaceniks all have a proud place in our heritage.

This gentle bike ride explores places connected to some of these fascinating individuals – including a stop at the WEA! We will start by biking around the central city (beginning at Te Matatiki Toi Ora The Arts Centre), then enjoy a beautiful ride through the traffic-free Avon-Ōtākaro Red Zone to Wainoni for a bike-side snack. The ride ends back in the central city, at Victoria Square.

Dr Rosemary Baird of Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga will explain the history and significance of each stop. Special thanks to Biketober and Heritage New Zealand for their support!

To ensure you get the best experience, places are limited to 12 riders. You must be a confident bicycle rider, come on your own bike and wear a helmet. As this tour includes cycling on the road we also recommend you wear an item of high vis. Your ticket includes a light afternoon tea snack, please let us know at least 1 week in advance of any dietary requirements.

Please in event of inclement weather this will be rescheduled to Sunday 26th October.
