The event will focus on the evolution of Te Tarahaka o Kaimatau Arthur's Pass following the completion of the Ōtira Railway Tunnel.
Join the Arthurs Pass Residents Association for an event that will look at the evolution of the village from a railway settlement to a village at the centre of the Arthur's Pass National Park.
The event will begin with a short presentation, in the Arthur’s Pass Community Centre, on the history of Arthur’s Pass, highlighting changes over the period 1925 – 1975.
Following the talk enjoy by a guided walk around the village to look at some of the buildings in the village associated with the Railway and the National Park, this will include the Engine Shed, the Railway Station, the Park Headquarters, the Chapel, the Outdoor Education Centre, the School and the Railway Houses.
The walk will be followed by an afternoon tea provided by the local community.
