Taenga, Paintings from the Arrival Series by Mike Depree

The recurring image of the waka, or boat, is intended as a metaphor for, amongst other things, the body as a vessel which carries us through our journey.

Kei te tai māi mātou,

Haere ki te takutai,

Ā,e timata ana i tā mātou

Haerenga ki tēnei ao rerekē hou.

We arrive, come ashore

And begin our journey

Into this strange new land.
