Details

  • Contractors will soon be starting on enhancing Cashmere Stream downstream of Sutherlands Road.  This is the first of 4 stages of stream improvements planned through to 2024.  The works will improve the health of the stream and enhance and provide new and diverse habitat for native plants and animals to live.
  • The enhancement of Cashmere Stream will happen alongside the development of a new 100-hectare flood storage and stormwater treatment facility being constructed between Cashmere Road and Sutherlands Road. This facility will help reduce the risk of flooding in the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River catchment and capture and reduce sediment running into the stream. Once complete the 100 ha Eastman Sutherlands stormwater facility will provide a network of walking and cycling paths and green spaces alongside the stream and around the wetlands.
  • In this first stage we will flatten the slope of the banks, create meanders and instream habitat, and plant the banks and wider margins with native plant species.  We will be starting 30m downstream of Sutherlands Road to allow a stormwater pipe to be laid under Sutherlands Road and Cashmere Stream.  Once the pipe is in we will come back and complete the stream enhancement here.
  • Copies of the designs for these works and further information are available at  www.ccc.govt.nz/cashmerestream(external link)
  • We thank you for your patience during the construction.  The contractors will need to fence off their work area to keep everyone safe, please respect this closure and we will have the area open again as soon as we can.
