Riccarton Road - water and wastewater pipe renewal

Details

We’re replacing old water and sewer pipes along Riccarton Road, between Matipo Street and Hansons Lane. The new pipes will more efficiently service the area into the future. 

The project is split into three zones (refer to map) to allow us to complete the project as quickly as possible by working in each zone at the same time.  We will progress the work in the same direction as the traffic.

Impacts to traffic and residents

Service location and preparation work (14 June to late June 2021, 7am and 6pm):

• Two way traffic will be maintained, with lane shifts and shoulder closures in place.
• There will be no on-street parking on sections of the road we’re working in.
• Access to properties will be restricted at times, so please speak to staff on-site.

Water and sewer replacement (July 2021 to March 2022):

• Two way traffic will be maintained, with lane shifts in place around the worksite.
• There will be no on-street parking on sections of the road we’re working in.
• Access to properties will be restricted at times, including work in driveways to lay new pipes. We’ll aim to work with residents to find the best times to do this work.

Night Works:

• Due to the heavy traffic volumes along Riccarton Road, some work will be undertaken at night. There will be extra noise and light as a result of this work which we’ll try to minimise and complete the work as quickly as possible. 

Project Overview

Service location and preparation work (14 June to late June 2021, 7am and 6pm): We'll begin service location work in each area. We will be digging small test holes to find services throughout the site.

East Zone (Matipo Street to Clyde Road): The new watermain will be located on the south side of the road, with upgrades to the sub main network within the footpaths. As we move west, the trench will be resurfaced and traffic lanes and parking reinstated.

Central Zone (Clyde Road to east of Ilam Road): The new watermain will be located on the north side of the road, with upgrades to the sub main network within the footpaths. As we move east, the trench will be resurfaced and traffic lanes and parking reinstated. There will be localised repairs to the existing sewer within this zone. The extent of this work will be communicated closer to the time.

West Zone (west of Ilam Road to Hansons Lane): The new watermain will be located on the north side of the road, with upgrades to the sub main network within the footpaths. As we move east, the trench will be resurfaced and traffic lanes and parking reinstated. There will be localised repairs to the existing sewer within this zone. The extent of this work will be communicated closer to the time.

Noise

There may be increased noise, dust and vibrations during work but it shouldn’t impact on your power, water, gas or phone services.

Safety is our biggest priority so please keep children and pets away from worksites.

Bins

---

Please put your bins out as usual before 6am on your collection day. Our crew will move and return them if needed.
