Takapūneke Reserve Redevelopment – Macrocarpa tree removals

What

We’re working with Ōnuku Rūnanga on the redevelopment of Takapūneke Reserve. This next stage of work includes the removal of Macrocarpa trees located near the historic barracks and Red House on Beach Road, as shown in the approved development plan. The buildings will be preserved and repurposed as part of the long term park development.

Why

The Macrocarpa trees pose a risk to these structures and are affecting the creation of a primary access point to the reserve. Their removal is an important step in delivering the development plan for the reserve. All trees will be processed on site, and the milled timber and mulch will be re‑used within the park as part of current and future development stages.

Where

When

31 March 2026 to mid-April 2026. Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm (weather and site conditions dependent).
