Wairakei Road – resurfacing (NIGHTWORKS)

What

We’re resurfacing Wairakei Road between Idris Road and Normans Road as a part of our road maintenance programme.

Why

The road is due for surface maintenance.

Where

Wairakei Road, between Idris Road and Normans Road, Strowan (including the Idris Road and Wairakei Road intersection).

When

We'll be working at night on 12 to 13 March 2026, Thursday to Friday, and 16 to 19 March 2026, Monday to Thursday, 7pm to 6am, (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We’re resurfacing Wairakei Road between Idris Road and Normans Road while traffic signal upgrades are taking place in the area. We’ll be working in the evenings on Thursday 12 March and Friday 13 March 2026 and from Monday 16 March to Thursday 19 March 2026. We’re doing this work at the same time to minimise the disruption and get out of your way as soon as possible.

Wairakei Road between Westholme Street and Normans Road is currently one-way citybound due to traffic signal upgrades taking place at the railway crossing.

Impacts:

  • At times, traffic travelling along Idris Road through the intersection with Wairakei Road will be impacted.
  • At times, the one-way system currently on Wairakei Road between Westholme Street and Normans Road will extend to between Idris Road and Normans Road.

Properties directly impacted by the works will receive specific information in their letterbox regarding traffic impacts.

Information for road users:

  • Cyclists will need to merge with traffic through the site.
  • We will temporarily remove on-street parking to allow space for the works. Local businesses in the area will remain open during this work.
  • Please follow all signage and crew directions.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our team and overyone safe.

Information for residents and businesses:

  • Access to properties and businesses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be impacted at times. We'll aim to provide advance warning where possible.
  • We will help people to get around the site. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them.

We know this work can be disruptive and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
