Details

The Canterbury Earthquake Sequence of 2010-11 resulted in the Crown’s “red-zoning” and ultimate removal of  approximately 5,500 residential properties along the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor. Some Council Parks and other assets
were included within this area, the result being the creation of 602 hectares of continuous 'green space' connecting the
Central Business District (CBD) with New Brighton.

The City to Sea Pathway runs through the heart of the OARC. The 11 kilometre long, shared use pathway is split into
three stages, the first being the City to Sea - West section which is now completed. This means we are able to continue
with the second phase of development, being the City to Sea – East.  This pathway runs from Porritt Park to SH74.

Christchurch City Council have engaged Citycare to undertake construction of this project.

The pathway includes one road crossing at Avondale Road.

Traffic management will be in place during the works. Pedestrians and cyclists using the existing route will be detoured
around the active work areas. One way throughfare will be used during the construction of the Avondale Road crossing.
