Wigram/Hayton Roads - intersection improvement

What

We are making improvements to the Wigram and Hayton Roads intersection. This includes installation of traffic lights, new shared path and improvements to drainage, kerbs, road repairs.

Why

New traffic signals at the intersection to meet the needs of a growing community and new facilities in the area. A new shared path on the northern side of Wigram Road to connect the existing path from where it currently terminates at Hayton Reserve along to the Wigram-Hayton intersection.

Details

The work will involve replacing the existing three-way priority controlled intersection with a four-way signalised intersection. The existing access to Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub via the Christchurch Southern Motorway will be sealed and connected to the signalised intersection. A new shared path will be provided on the northern side of Wigram Road.

 

 

Traffic impacts

  • The majority of work will happen between 6am and 7pm Monday to Friday, however some nightworks may be required. Another works notice will be issued with details if this is the case, and we will contact affected residents and businesses directly.
  • Hayton Road will be closed at Wigram Road while intersection works are carried out. Temporary Stop/Go or traffic light management will operate on Wigram Road to maintain two-way traffic.

Information for residents and businesses

  • Access to properties and businesses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained around the work site where possible. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • Little River Link Cycleway will stay open 24/7 for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • There will be no parking near the Wigram–Hayton intersection during the works. Road users are encouraged to park on Ballarat Way and Avenger Crescent. Thank you for your understanding.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place to keep our team and the community safe.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum.  
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the condition of the roads. We’ll provide further updates if there are changes to the planned work schedule.

We know this work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding. Our team will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience and carry out the work as efficiently as possible.
