What

We’re installing a new water main and lateral connections, to keep water flowing to you and your whānau.

Why

To replace and upgrade the existing water main and lateral connections, which have reached the end of their service life.

Where

216 Memorial Avenue to Greers Road, Cottesmore Close, Guildford Street and Sealy Place up to Wairakei Road, Fendalton.

When

6 January 2026 to end July 2026. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We’re replacing the water main starting from 216 Memorial Avenue, to the Greers Road intersection and through to Wairakei Road. Works are set to take place from 6 January 2026 to end July 2026.

 

We understand that this work is disruptive, and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding.

 

Traffic impacts

 

  • Traffic management will be installed to keep both road users and workers safe.
  • Works will take place 7am to 6pm weekdays.
  • Please be aware, reduced speed limits will be in place during construction works.
  • A lane closure will be in place on Memorial Ave (City bound lane) from 216 Memorial Avenue into the Greers Road intersection.
  • A temporary one-way system (No Entry) will operate on Greers Road, with road closures into Cottesmore Place, Guildford Street, and Sealy Place. There will be no access into Greers Road from Memorial Avenue, with a one-way system from Wairakei Road towards Memorial Avenue on Greers Road.
  • Detours will be installed during the works and adjusted during the phasing of the works.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained with clear signage for detours. Please adhere to the signage.
  • Vehicle access to properties will be maintained using steel plates where required, and on-street parking will be limited during the works.
  • Bus stop changes will be in place, and changes will be communicated in advance on the respective apps.
  • We understand that this work is disruptive, and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding.the water supply mains and lateral connections to the property boundary will be accessed, including work across berms and footpaths.

Water shut-offs

  • The new water main will be tested, and you will be informed via another letter drop prior to any water shut-off.
  • Water shut-offs will occur at night or within typical working hours to reduce disruptions, and will work in conjunction with the schools in close proximity, e.g Burnside High School, Christ The King Primary School and Rabbit Patch Pre-School, to minimise the impact of disruption.

Night works

  • Night works will be utilised for intersection works at Memorial Avenue and Greers Road. 
  • Further night works will be utilised where needed.
  • We aim to complete the noisier work earlier in the evening.
  • The work will produce noise, vibrations and dust.
  • Any night work will be from 7pm to 6am.

Access

  • Access to residences and businesses may be briefly impacted at times; our crew will make access available as soon as possible. Please advise us if you have any specific property access requirements, e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help and any planned works.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them, if needed.

Other nearby roadworks

 

This project is being done at the same time as planned roadworks on Greers Road between Memorial Avenue and Waimairi Road. Information on that project will be distributed separately.
