Halswell Junction Road - pedestrian improvements

What

We’re making improvements to Halswell Junction Road for people crossing in this busy location. We’re installing a new signalised pedestrian/cycle crossing point and applying high friction surfacing on the approaches to help vehicles stop and pedestrians cross safely.

Why

To make it easier and safer for people to cross Halswell Junction Road. This is part of a larger package to make it safer for children to get to local schools.

Halswell Junction Road (at the Bill Harvey walkway), Halswell.

When

14 January 2026 to early February 2026, Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We’re installing a new signalised pedestrian crossing point on Halswell Junction Road (at the Bill Harvey walkway). A small section of Halswell Junction Road will be closed.

Traffic impacts

  • From Wednesday 14 January 2026, Halswell Junction Road will be closed between 364 Halswell Junction Road and Albert Wills Ave, 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday. There will be no access through this section of Halswell Junction Road while we are working.
  • Access will be reinstated from Friday afternoons until Monday mornings.
  • Please use the signposted detour routes during this time.
  • The speed limit around our work site is 30km/h so we can keep our workers safe.
  • We’ll need to remove on-street parking, so we will place no parking signage out before we start work.
  • Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs.
  • Our friendly staff will help people get around our site and assist with any queries.

Information for residents

  • Access for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists to impacted properties within our worksite will be maintained where possible.
  • Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them if needed.
