Centaurus Road - wastewater main replacement

What

We are replacing approximately 300 metres of wastewater pipe beneath the road.

Why

A major wastewater pipe beneath Centaurus Road has failed and needs to be replaced.

Where

Between 131 – 174 Centaurus Road, Christchurch.

When

12 January 2026 to 24 April 2026. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

Work on replacing the wastewater pipe on Centaurus Road will be completed in three stages:

 

  • Stage 1 – 172 to 162 Centaurus Road
  • Stage 2 – 160 to 141 Centaurus Road
  • Stage 3 – 141 to 135 Centaurus Road

To undertake this work, a two or three-way traffic light system will be in place between 131-174 Centaurus Road. There will be a no exit on Kowhai Terrace onto Centaurus Road. Please refer to the map below.

  • Wastewater services: wastewater services will continue without disruption.
  • Driveway access: At times, vehicle access to some properties will be restricted. Affected residents will be notified in advance by door knock or letterbox drop. Please advise us if you have any specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries, or any planned works.
  • Pedestrian access: Footpaths will remain open and safe pedestrian routes will be maintained.
  • Cyclists: Cycling routes will be in place throughout the works.
  • On-street parking: Temporary parking restrictions will be required near the work area. Signage and no parking cones will indicate affected zones. Please move vehicles off the road while the no parking cones are in place.
  • Kerbside waste collection: Please place your bins out as usual. Our crews will assist with moving them to an accessible collection point if needed.
  • Public transport: Some bus stops will be affected by the works; temporary relocations will be signposted and notified separately.
