Details

In early 2026 we’ll start construction of the next stage of the South Express Cycleway. This will extend the cycleway along Waterloo Road from Barters Road, continuing along Railway Terrace and Jones Road to Globe Bay Drive. Part of this work will include replacing the kerb and channel and resealing Railway Terrace.

Before this work starts, we need to identify any potential clashes between the design and underground fibre and telecommunications services. We’re doing this work over the weekend to minimise disruption to weekday commuters.

This investigative work involves digging holes to confirm the position of existing cables within the road to inform the design of upcoming works. Investigations can also include taking samples from the road to better understand its material make up. Holes will be backfilled and resurfaced. The work will be noisy at times.

Traffic Impacts

The majority of holes will be dug in the road shoulders and berms. Parts of the road shoulder will be closed, and lanes will be shifted so the work can be done safely. Where the road is narrow, such as on Jones Rd, traffic control will be in place.

Some footpath closures may also be required. If this is the case, crossing points will be established directing pedestrians to use the opposite side of the road.
