Dunbars/Hindess/McMahon intersection – pedestrian improvements

What

We’re making improvements at the Dunbars Road, Hindess Street, McMahon Drive intersection for people walking and crossing at this location. We’re installing a new crossing point on McMahon Drive, making changes to other median islands and adding new road marking, and installing tactile paving and hold rails.

Why

To make it easier for people to use this intersection when travelling on foot, by providing an additional crossing point on McMahon Drive. In addition, all crossing points will have tactile paving and hold rails. This is part of a larger package to make it safer for children to get to local schools.

At the intersection of Dunbars Road, Hindess Street and McMahon Drive, Halswell.

When

1 December 2025 to 5 December 2025. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

What you need to know:

  • There may be short delays during working hours, and your understanding is appreciated.
  • Temporary traffic management (road cones, signs) will be installed as part of the works.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our team and everyone safe.
  • We’ll need to remove on-street parking to allow space for the works, and to keep everyone safe.
  • We know this work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding.

Information for residents:

  • Access to properties for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained around the worksite where possible.
  • We’ll help people get around the site. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads. We'll provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.
