We are pleased to announce the commencement of construction within the Performing Arts Precinct, marking a significant milestone in delivering on Council’s decision to develop a hybrid model of temporary car parking and public open space.
Progress on this project has required careful navigation through design development, regulatory approvals, and the tendering process. A key challenge has been the remediation of building rubble contaminants on site, which has now been successfully resolved, enabling construction to proceed.
Throughout the planning phase, we have worked in close collaboration with the Court Theatre, Isaac Theatre Royal, and The Piano to ensure the carpark design supports the operational needs of their patrons and staff. The facility will include designated mobility parking and integrated ticketing features to enhance accessibility for visitors with mobility impairments.
Gloucester Street is home to the city’s Performing Arts Precinct and connects key cultural and civic destinations including New Regent Street, Tūranga, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Whiti-reia Cathedral Square, Isaac Theatre Royal, The Piano, and the new Court Theatre.
Please note that in the event of adverse weather conditions, scheduled works may be postponed.
Every effort will be made to minimise the number of parking spaces affected by traffic management measures during construction.
Noise
There may be increased noise, dust and vibrations during work but it shouldn’t impact on your power, water, gas or phone services.
Safety
Safety is our biggest priority so please keep children and pets away from worksites.
Bins
Please put your bins out as usual before 6am on your collection day. Our crew will move and return them if needed.
