Details

This significant wastewater pipe upgrade started in September 2025 and will be finished by early 2026. Parts of this upgrade are now completed (Clyde and Creyke Roads), and work is ongoing on Maidstone Road.

From 20 October 2025, the contractor will start with trenching and excavation works at the intersection of Maidstone and Waimairi Roads. This phase of work will take approximately 9 weeks to complete. The final phase of the project will then follow in early 2026, with the main focus being minor tidy up works. The Maidstone Road westbound one-way system may be required for a short time if work on Maidstone Road isn't complete, but we will be trying to finish up there before Christmas also. The previous works notice stated that this impact could be in place until approximately mid-2026, but with the project progressing well, we know that it would be early 2026 at the latest.

Works include:

  • Pumping water from below the ground to allow for trenching and excavation works.
  • Trenching and excavation works.
  • Installation of new pipes and road sealing.
  • Key works on existing water services.

Key works on existing watermains will be completed at night between 9pm and 6am (Monday to Thursday) to reduce disruption to the service when demand is low. Where a water shut-off is required, notice will be given to affected properties 48 hours prior.

Traffic impacts

The main traffic impacts during this next phase are:

  • At the north side of the intersection on Waimairi Road, a No Exit will be in place. Entry is permitted only for traffic travelling from the south (Waimairi Road) or west (Maidstone Road) – no entry onto Waimairi Road (north side) for traffic travelling from the east on the one-way system (Maidstone Road). See map below.
  • One-way traffic on Maidstone Road traveling west direction only, between Ilam Road and Waimairi Road (as per the current traffic management).

Signposted detours will be in place around the intersection and Maidstone Road for affected traffic.

A 30km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our workers and everyone safe.

Please follow the signage and keep an eye out for changes in traffic management.

Additional information

  • Customer parking for the shops on Waimairi Road remains available.
  • Any properties that have water services affected will be given 48 hours notice prior, and power will be maintained.
  • Any changes to bus routes will be shown with signage at bus stops. For information on bus routes, visit metroinfo.co.nz(external link).
  • Driveway access to properties will be maintained. However, we may need to work in front of driveways at times. We will try and give you plenty of notice for this. If you need to get in and out of your property and we are in your way, please talk to one of the Dormer Construction staff members and they will make sure you can use your driveway.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • If you would like to learn more about the upcoming work, the contractor will be hosting a coffee morning for the community on Friday, 7 November from 10am at LB & Co Espresso (on the corner of Ilam and Creyke Roads).
