Over the past eight months, our crews have completed all major work along Wairakei Road, including the commissioning of the new traffic lights and upgrades to the watermain, wastewater, and streetscape. By late September, work on Aorangi Road (north) will also be at the same stage, with the new cycleway ready for use.
For the remainder of 2025, minor works will continue along Wairakei Road and Aorangi Road (north). These works are expected to have minimal impact on vehicle, pedestrian, and cyclist movements in the area.
Upgrades along Aorangi Road (south) are ongoing, as is the temporary southwest-bound one-way system. The worksite will be reduced where possible as crews progress through the main stage of construction.
Aorangi Road (north), between Condell Avenue and Wairakei Road
Mid-September onwards:
· Two-way traffic will be reinstated on Aorangi Road (north) from Condell Avenue to Wairakei Road. Left turn onto Wairakei Road only, as per the new road layout (see map).
· Wallace and Christian streets will be fully open.
· The new two-way cycleway on Aorangi Road (north) will open between Condell Avenue and Wallace Street.
Late September onwards:
· The new two-way cycleway on Aorangi Road (north) will be open from Condell Avenue through to Wairakei Road.
· Minor works will continue, including line marking, planting, and smaller tidy-up jobs.
Aorangi Road (south), between Wairakei Road and Bateman Avenue
Work on the stormwater, wastewater, cycleway, and street upgrades will continue through till December 2025.
Mid-September onwards:
· Temporary traffic lights will be placed at the Colwyn Street and Aorangi Road intersection. Colwyn Street will remain left in and left out. This will allow our teams to upgrade the intersection in two halves while maintaining vehicle access.
