Whaka Terrace - retaining wall construction

Update

What

We are undertaking slip repairs on Whaka Terrace by constructing a new retaining wall.

Why

We are constructing a new retaining wall to return Whaka Terrace to two lanes. The road has been restricted to one lane due to a slip in the area in 2021.

Where

15 Whaka Terrace, Huntsbury

When

17 February 2025 to late January 2026. Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Higgins Contractors. Phone 03 341 4370, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Please advise if you have specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or planned works.

Details

Site construction has been slower than expected due to unforeseen challenging soil conditions. These soil conditions have affected the progress of soil nail installation and shotcrete wall construction which need to be constructed prior to the main piles and the mechanically stabilized earth wall section of this site.

During the works

  • There will be increased noise, dust, and vibration from the use of machinery for activities such as saw cutting, soil excavation, and retaining wall construction.
  • On-street parking will be affected where we are working. Cones will indicate where parking will not be available.
  • Property access will be maintained where possible. We will work with businesses and residents during the work.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained through the site. Please follow the signage and directions of our temporary management staff.
  • Please put your rubbish bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day.  Our team will move them and return them if needed.

Road Closure

  • Road closures may occasionally be needed to mobilise large equipment and undertake specific construction tasks.
  • We will advise residents one week prior to road closures being implemented. On these occasions, the road will be closed from 9am to 3pm.
  • Traffic Management staff will be able to help direct residents and business owners to their properties within the work area.
  • If you need travel through the site during a road closure, please speak to our staff and we will arrange safe access for you. Please allow a 15 minute waiting period.
