Harewood / Gardiners / Breens intersection - investigation work

What

We’ll be working on the road investigating the location of underground services.

Why

We’ll be back later this year to install traffic signals and upgrade water pipes at this intersection. These investigations will confirm what is under the road and will help us to plan the most efficient construction approach.

Harewood Road / Gardiners Road / Breens Road intersection, Harewood.

When

Saturday 23 August 2025 to Sunday 24 August 2025. 7am to 8pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We'll be installing traffic signals and upgrading water pipes at the Harewood Road / Gardiners Road / Breens Road intersection later this year.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

On Saturday 23 August between 7am and 8pm:

  • Gardiners Road at Harewood Road will be completely closed to vehicles in both directions.
  • The right-turn bay into Gardiners Road from Harewood Road will also be closed.
  • The north side of Harewood Road (heading towards the city centre) will be reduced to one lane.

On Sunday 24 August between 7am and 8pm:

  • Breens Road at Harewood Road will be completely closed to vehicles in both directions. 
  • The middle of the intersection will also be closed, which means vehicles will not be able to turn right from Gardiners Road into Harewood Road.
  • The road will be reduced to one lane in each direction (both city centre-bound and airport-bound).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Some bus stops will be temporarily closed and bus detours will be in place on Saturday 23 August 2025.

  • On-street parking will be restricted during our work.
  • Footpath access will remain available at all times.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibrations at times, but we’ll do our best to minimise this.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them if needed.
  • There is a possibility we may still need to be onsite on Monday 25  August to complete any remaining work.
  • Please note: In the event of very wet weather, our contingency weekend will be: Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August 2025.
