Barrington Street, Frankleigh Street and Milton Street Intersection - traffic signal upgrades

What

We are upgrading the traffic signals at the intersection of Barrington Street, Frankleigh Street and Milton Street.

Why

These traffic signals are at the end of their service life and need to be replaced. We are working alongside Orion while they install an underground 66kV power cable at this intersection.

29 June 2025 to 14 July 2025. Sunday to Thursday, 7pm to 6am and 14 July 2025 to 28 July 2025. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

From Sunday 29 June 2025, we will be upgrading the signals at the Barrington Street, Milton Street and Frankleigh Street intersection.

To minimise disruption in the area, we are coordinating with Orion while they install an underground 66kV power cable at this intersection.

Due to the busy nature of the intersection, we will be completing the first two weeks of the signal upgrade by working through the night. 

Sunday 29 June to Monday 14 July

The southern side of the Barrington Street, Frankleigh Street, and Milton Street intersection will be closed from Sunday 29 June to Monday 14 July.

  • Traffic travelling south on Barrington Street will be able to turn left onto Milton Street and right onto Frankleigh Street. Travel straight through the intersection will be restricted.
  • Traffic travelling north on Frankleigh Street will be able to turn left onto Barrington Street and straight onto Milton Street. Right turn onto Barrington Street will be restricted.
  • Milton Street will be one way travelling from Barrington Street to Simeon Street.

Monday 14 July to Monday 28 July

From Monday 14 July, when the partial intersection closure is removed, temporary traffic management will remain in place at the Barrington Street, Milton Street, and Frankleigh Street intersection. Traffic will be able to travel through the intersection from all directions.

Information for road users

  • Cyclists will need to merge with traffic through the site.
  • We will need to temporarily remove on-street parking to allow space for the works.
  • Local businesses in the area will remain open during this work.
  • Please follow the signposted detour route and take note of all signage.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our team and everyone safe.

Information for residents and businesses

  • Access to properties and businesses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be impacted at times. We'll aim to provide advanced warning where possible.
  • We will help people to get around the site. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we will do our best to keep this to
    a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them.

We know this work can be disruptive and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding.
