Antigua Street cycle connection and watermain works - road and lane closures (NIGHTWORKS)

What

We’ll be working at night to install the new watermain pipes on Antigua Street which cross Moorhouse Avenue. We will also take the opportunity to install the new stormwater pipes on Antigua Street and complete the upgrade of the Halkett Street / Antigua Street intersection.

Why

Due to the traffic volumes in this area and the location of the new pipe alignment, work will need to be completed at night using various traffic management layouts as detailed below.

Where

Antigua Street from Moorhouse Avenue to St Asaph Street (including Halkett Street), and Antigua Street from Moorhouse Avenue to Hazeldean Road.

When

Sunday, 22 June 2025 to Friday, 25 July 2025. *Nightworks* 7pm to 6am (weather/site condition dependent).

The contractor is Fulton Hogan. Phone 0800 7623 34 (0800 ROAD FH), Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, or email cant.info@fultonhogan.com. After business hours, please feel free to call us if the matter is urgent.

Details

As part of the Antigua Street Cycle Connection and Watermain project, we are upgrading the watermain along Antigua Street from Hazeldean Road to St Asaph Street

Due to the traffic volumes in this area and the location of the new pipe alignment, work will need to be completed at night to enable the contractor to install the watermain on the new alignment. Completing this work at night also limits the disruption to traffic. The contractor will be using various traffic management layouts as detailed below and shown on the map over the page.

Antigua Street, between Moorhouse Avenue and St Asaph Street:

Between 7pm – 6am, a road closure will be in place on Antigua Street between Moorhouse Avenue and St Asaph Street, which also includes Halkett Street. During this time there will be no access in or out for vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians. Both road closures on Antigua and Halkett streets will be installed nightly from Sunday 22 June, for about five weeks, so please follow the signposted detour routes.

Antigua Street (south side of Moorhouse Avenue), between Hazeldean Road and Moorhouse Avenue:

Between 7pm – 6am, the southbound lane on Antigua Street, between Hazeldean Avenue and Moorhouse Avenue, will be closed (as shown on the map) and a northbound one-way traffic system will be installed. During this time northbound traffic is unaffected and can head onto Moorhouse Avenue from Antigua Street, but southbound traffic will need to follow the signposted detours. This will be installed nightly from Sunday 22 June, for about two weeks.

Moorhouse Avenue at the intersections with Antigua Street:

Between 7pm – 6am, lane drops will be in place on Moorhouse Avenue to allow us to install the watermain across Moorhouse Avenue. Traffic will still be able to travel east/west through the intersection in both directions. The lane drops will be installed nightly from Sunday 22 June, for about two weeks.

Please note: access for emergency services will be provided, if required.

  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the condition of the roads. We will provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.
  • Please advise us via the contact information above if you have any specific property requirements e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or any planned works.
