Details

We are installing a staggered pedestrian crossing in the central median island on Deans Avenue and kerb build outs to minimise the crossing distance for people.  This requires the merge location for southbound traffic to be moved approximately 380 metres north to provide a single traffic lane making it safer for pedestrians to cross.

This will also allow space for the kerb buildout, and wider parking adjacent to Hagley Park.  Tactile pavers, supporting signage, road marking changes, minor parking removal, lighting upgrade and a speed hump on the east side approach to the crossing are also included in these works.

A full reseal of both sides of Deans Avenue will take place at night during the final week of construction for the pedestrian crossing.  You will receive a separate notification of details of this work and the traffic impacts.

Traffic impacts

  • During this time, two lanes of traffic will be maintained.  However, traffic lanes will be restricted, and temporary traffic lights may be used to manage traffic through the work area.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained around our work site.
  • Our friendly staff will help people get around our site.  We will need to restrict some on-street parking, so we will place no parking cones out before we start work.  We will aim to minimise this as much as possible.
  • Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs.  A 30km/h speed limit will be in place.

Driveway access

Access to properties will be maintained.  However, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time.  If you need to get into or out of your property and we are in the way, please just talk to one of our friendly staff and we will make sure you can use your driveway.
