Details

The City to Sea Pathway is an 11-kilometre-long shared user pathway that runs from oxford Terrace to Pages Road, following the path of the Ōtākaro Avon River.  Due to its length, construction has been split into three stages. The first stage runs from the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue to Avon Park and includes the fourth and final footbridge.

This footbridge will cross the river between Morris Street and Dallington Terrace and will take around four months to construct.  Its location is indicated on the map below.

Please find key information about this work below:

  • Temporary fencing will be installed around the site to fully isolate the work area.  Signage will be in place to redirect pedestrians and cyclists safely around the construction zone.
  • Heavy machinery will be operating during the day, with construction vehicles and equipment moving within the site.  Access for materials, machinery, and vehicles will be via the entry points on Retreat Road as shown in the below map.  Heavy transport will enter the red zone for deliveries.  Drivers will maintain low speeds, but dog walkers are advised to keep pets on a leash near the site.
  • Noise, vibrations, and dust levels will increase locally during construction.  Pile-driving activities, in particular, will generate noise.  Please avoid extended stays near the site during these operations.
  • Welding activities will be shielded as much as possible.  However, for your safety, avoid looking directly at any welding work, as it can cause eye damage.
  • At times, access to the river within the work area will be restricted, especially during the lifting and placement of construction materials and the bridge structure.  Please follow any guidance provided by the contractors.
  • We value the community's involvement in this project.  With so many walkers and park users in the area, we encourage you to report any suspicious activity around the site.
  • A map of the work area is provided below for reference.
