HMNZS Steadfast – repairs to Drill Hall and Wardroom

What

The Cass Bay Navy Cadets are carrying out repair works to the Drill Hall and Wardroom. This work will require access to the reserve on the west side of the stream to be restricted for safety reasons.

Why

The buildings are historic military buildings used by the Cass Bay Navy Cadets. The repairs are necessary to restore the buildings to a safe and habitable condition.

When

3 March 2025 to late April 2025. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

The work involves the replacement of the roof and gutters, rotten weatherboards and painting the exterior of the two buildings. The buildings are to be scaffolded, and construction work will involve the removal of the asbestos from the buildings. Following this a new roof and timber repairs to the buildings will be carried out.

 

Initial works started here the week of 17 February 2025, but restricted access to the reserve on the west side will start from next week, 3 March.

This work is not being carried out by the Council, but we are providing this notice as these are Council-owned buildings and there are impacts to the community.

Impact of the work

  • Temporary site fencing and signage will be in place to protect the public from entering the construction zone.
  • The western area of the reserve will be closed to public access from 3 March to 17 April. The eastern gate and side of the reserve will be accessible.
  • There may be increased noise during these works.
  • You can expect to see an increase of traffic and contractors on site during the day.
