Details

Phase 2 construction work is split over three stages:

Stage one – late January 2025 to end June 2025.

Stage two - September 2025 to end December 2025.

Stage three – April 2026 to end June 2026.

The next phase of development for Takapūneke Reserve will be implemented in stages over 2025 and 2026. This first area of work is on the steeper slopes of the reserve to the south the first takarangi and pou. This was designed to fit with the landscape using the ground contours with raised boardwalks, steps and paths which lead to a central platform area that has a shelter and seating. This stage will be completed for the Matariki celebrations on the 20 June 2025. A community planting will form part of the celebrations.

The second stage will be the construction of the third takarangi further down the slope towards Britomart. A raised walkway will lead to a platform with a feature pou and seating. A path network will connect the two takarangi.

Native planting over 2025 and 2026 will complete this section of the reserve.

Impact of work

  • The work will be noisy while we complete the earthworks and construct footpaths, as well as raised viewing and seating platforms.
  • At times, some on-street parking on Stanley Place will be restricted for safety reasons.
  • A temporary yard will be established at the Ōnuku landfill site for the duration of Stage 2 construction.
  • You can expect an increase in the number of trucks traveling through Akaroa township during this work.
  • During construction of phase 2, Takapūneke Reserve will remain open, however at certain times localised areas will be restricted for safety reasons.
