Ferry Road, Ensors Road and Aldwins Road - intersection closure (essential upgrade)

What

We're closing the intersection to strengthen the carriageway, replace traffic lights, and install safe speed platforms on all approaches.

Why

Council will renew the intersection as the foundations are failing, replace the traffic lights because they have reached the end of their service life and install safe speed platforms on each approach.

Where

Ferry Road, Ensors Road and Aldwins Road intersection, Woolston.

When

5 January 2025 to 13 January 2025. Sunday to Monday, 6pm to 5am (24 hour work) weather/site condition dependent).

Details

We'll be closing this intersection for one week to complete this work while the roads are quiet, and before the school year begins.

Businesses will remain open as usual, unless already planning to close for the holiday season.

Pedestrian access and some off-street parking will be available for people visiting the businesses.

The scope of works include milling and excavation of the existing pavement, construction of new pavement, installing new traffic signals, installing safe speed platforms and linemarking.

Traffic impacts

There will be no access for vehicles to travel through the intersection from Ferry Road, Aldwins Road, or Ensors Road. However, access to properties within the closure area will be managed by the contractor.

  •  Aldwins Road will be closed for southbound traffic just south of where the road intersects with Edmonds Street.
  • East of the intersection, Ferry Road will be closed, just west of where the road intersects Hart Street.
  •  Ensors Road will be closed for northbound traffic just north of where the road intersects with Grenville Street.
  • West of the intersection, Ferry Road will be closed, just east of where the road intersects with Ryan Street.

  • There will be changes to bus routes during the closure and bus stops close by will temporarily closed.
  • The bus stops either side of the intersection will be temporarily relocated over the duration of the work.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h through the site to keep our contractors safe.
  • Please adhere to all signage and be aware of cyclists merging.
  • There will be no on-street parking available within the work area marked on the map, for the duration of this work. Some temporary off-street car parking will be available during the closure.

Information for residents and businesses

  • This work will generate noise, dust, and vibration.
  • Several of the footpaths and the pedestrian crossing will be closed while our crew is working. There will be alternative footpaths where required and traffic controllers on hand to escort pedestrians across the road.
  • Access to residences and businesses may be briefly impacted at times, but our crew will make access available as soon as possible. Please advise us if you have specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries, planned works.
  • The work will not impact on any services, such as water, electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them, if needed.
