Details

Work has been underway at several locations around the stadium since August 2024.

Works include upgrading the watermains and wastewater network, widening footpaths, landscaping, improving pedestrian crossings, and changing the travel direction of Lichfield Street and Tuam Street, east of the stadium.

Works are happening on:

  • Barbadoes Street (between Hereford Street and Tuam Street).
  • Madras Street (Hereford Street to Moorhouse Avenue, including intersections).
  • Lichfield Street (working from Madras Street towards Manchester Street).
  • Lichfield Street (Barbadoes Street to Fitzgerald Avenue including the intersection).
  • Tuam Street (near the Madras Street intersection, continuing east to Barbadoes Street and across the intersection with Fitzgerald Avenue).
  • Ash Street (off Madras Street).

Traffic Impacts:

  • Most of our work will take place between 7am - 7pm, Monday to Friday, with some work taking place on weekends as required.
  • At times, night work may be required. You will receive further notification from the contractor prior to this happening.
  • Temporary traffic management (road cones, signs) will be installed as part of the works. Please follow all signage and instructions from our team onsite.
  • There may be some traffic delays.
  • There will be no on-street parking while we are working in the area.
  • At times, there will be a reduction in lanes, shoulder closures and closures of turning lanes.
  • At times, we will use manual traffic controls to support the flow of traffic while we work in the road.
  • At times, the east to west running streets in the area will be reduced to one-way or closed through the intersections. Detours will be in place where appropriate.
  • Commuters traversing across the city are encouraged to use alternative routes e.g. Fitzgerald Avenue or Montreal Street during the construction works.
  • There might be changes to the bus routes while work is completed on Tuam Street, please refer to the bus network for information about these changes - metroinfo.co.nz.

Information for residents and businesses:

  • The nature of the work that we are doing will generate noise, dust and vibrations.
  • At times, several footpaths and pedestrian crossings will be closed while our crew is working. When this happens there will be traffic controllers on hand to escort pedestrians across the road.
  • Access to residences and businesses may be temporarily impacted at times, but our crew will make access available as soon as possible.
  • Please advise if you have any specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help and any planned works.
  • This work will require several planned water shut-offs. You will receive further notification from the contractor prior to this happening, if you are affected.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them, if needed.
