We expect the new traffic lights will be operational early-to-mid 2025.

Traffic impacts

Due to the traffic volumes in this area, the majority of work will be completed at night, between 7pm and 6am.  The programme will be carried out in several phases and will include a combination of stop/go traffic management and road closures.  Dates are given below:

Wednesday 18 September until Sunday 29 September 2024:

  • Between 8pm and 6am nightly, a lane will be closed on Langdons Road at the railway crossing and stop/go, with temporary traffic lights, will be used to manage traffic through the work area.
  • During the day, between 6am and 8pm, two-way traffic will be reinstated.

Monday 30 September until Saturday 5 October 2024:

  • Between 7pm and 10pm nightly, a lane will be closed on Langdons Road at the railway crossing and stop/go, with temporary traffic lights, will be used to manage traffic through the work area.
  • Between 10pm and 6am nightly, Langdons Road, will be closed to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians at the railway crossing.
  • During the day, between 6am and 7pm, two-way traffic will be reinstated.

Sunday, 6 October (6am) until Monday 14 October 2024 (6pm):

  • Langdons Road will be closed day and night to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians at the railway crossing.

Tuesday 15 October until early December 2024:

  • Between 7pm and 10pm nightly, a lane will be closed on Langdons Road at the railway crossing and stop/go with temporary traffic lights will be used to manage traffic through the work area.
  • Between 10pm and 6am nightly, Langdons Road, will be closed to traffic, cyclists and pedestrians at the railway crossing.
  • During the day, between 6am and 7pm, two-way traffic will be reinstated.

When the railway crossing is closed:

  • Detour routes will be in place, with signage to redirect traffic around the road closures.  Cyclists and pedestrians will also have a signposted detour route.  Please allow extra travel time if you will be affected by the closures.

When stop/go traffic management is used:

  • Please expect delays or plan a different travel route to avoid the area.

A 30km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our workers and everyone safe.  Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs.

Information for residents and businesses

  • For the duration of the project, all on-street parking, close to our work site, will be temporarily removed to allow for safe working space.
  • Access to properties and businesses, for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, will be maintained on either side of the work site.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, but we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the condition of the roads.  We will provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.

Driveway access

Driveway access to properties will be maintained. However, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. We will try and give you plenty of notice for this. However, if you need to get in and out of your property and we are in your way, please just talk to one of the Fulton Hogan staff members and they will make sure you can use your driveway.

Other work in the area

Another contractor is working at the intersection of Greers Road and Langdons Road until the end of November. To ensure disruption across the area is kept to a minimum, that intersection will revert to two-way traffic on both Greers Road and Langdons Road during the Langdons Road railway crossing closure.

There are also other rail upgrades happening in the area. For more information, and to subscribe to updates, please visit www.ccc.govt.nz/bishopdale-papanui.
