Main North Road / Cranford Street Intersection - amended scope of work

What

In preparation for replacing the signals and cabling on the intersection, we will be doing sample testing in the footpath and road carriageway. The scope of work has been amended following the recent work notice.

Why

The signals and cables at the intersection are at the end of their useful lives and require replacement. This sample testing work will allow us to finalise the design and plans for construction, which will come later.

Where

Intersection of Main North Road and Cranford Street, Papanui.

When

19 August 2024 to 23 August 2024. Monday to Friday, 24-hour works (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Downer NZ. Phone 03 359 0700, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Details

Due to negotiations with KiwiRail for another high priority project, we anticipate that there will be more traffic than usual at this intersection. We have therefore made the decision to delay the construction of these works until that is completed, which is expected to be early 2025. We will issue another Start Work Notice for construction when we have more clarity around the exact dates.

The contractor will now be completing sample testing only, for one week, during both day and night shifts, in preparation of the full scope of work to be completed at a later date. New dates for the signalling upgrades are yet to be confirmed and will be advised in due course.

The sample testing that will be carried out in the coming week includes boring holes through the footpath and road carriageway to investigate and confirm existing utilities, cables, and identity any clashes with the proposed design.

Our contractors will do their utmost to complete the noisiest of the works early in the night to minimise the impact to residents in the area.

Traffic Impacts

  • The intersection will be open to traffic throughout these works, however there will be times when turning lanes are closed to facilitate the work required. Traffic can still turn at the intersection.
  • Pedestrian access will be available via marked routes with signs advising where to go.
