Main North Road and Cranford Street Intersection – signals recabling (NIGHT WORKS)

What

We are replacing the traffic signals and cabling on the Main North Road and Cranford Street intersection. These works will largely be conducted overnight, with some day works where possible.

Why

The signals and cables are at the end of their useful lives and require replacement.

Where

Intersection of Main North Road and Cranford Street, Papanui.

When

18 August 2024 to end of September 2024. Sunday to Friday, 6pm to 6am (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Downer NZ. Phone 03 359 0700, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Details

The works include, but are not limited to:

  • Installation of new ducting
  • Installation of new traffic poles
  • Reinstatement of footpath and pavement
  • Concrete cutting and pouring for islands
  • Road marking and signage

Timing

  • Work will not take place every night of the dates indicated above – it is expected to take approximately 20 nights across that time frame.
  • These works are required to largely take place at night to mitigate the impact on the high volume of traffic that passes through this intersection during the day. Wherever possible, we will do works during the day in the pavement areas, to ensure the works are completed as soon as we can.
  • Our contractors will do their utmost to complete the noisiest of the works early in the night to minimise the impact to residents in the area.

Traffic Impacts

Lane drops and possible road closures:

  • The intersection will be open for the majority of these works, however there will be times when lanes are closed and lane diversions are in place to facilitate the work required.
  • Detour routes will be in place, with signage to redirect traffic around the closures. Please allow extra travel time if you will be affected by the closures.

Pedestrian access:

  • Pedestrian access will be available via marked routes with signs advising where to go.
