Details

The Canterbury Earthquake Sequence of 2010-11 resulted in the Crown’s “red-zoning” and ultimate removal of approximately 5,500 residential properties along the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor (OARC). Some Council Parks and other assets were included within this area, the result being the creation of 602 hectares of continuous 'green space' connecting the Central Business District (CBD) with New Brighton.

The City to Sea Pathway runs through the heart of the OARC. The 11 kilometre long, shared user pathway is split into three stages, with the western portion being constructed first. It runs from the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue and River Road to Avon Park.

Council have engaged CORDE to undertake the construction of this portion of the project.

This portion includes three road crossings at Stanmore Road, Swanns Road and Gayhurst Road.

Traffic management will be in place during the works.  Pedestrians and cyclists using the existing route will be detoured around the active work areas. One way throughfare will be used during road construction at the proposed crossings (Stanmore Road, Swanns Road and Gayhurst Road).
