Details

What are we doing?

From 6pm on Monday 29 July, we’ll be potholing around the railway crossing on Harewood Road. This investigation work is required to understand the location and condition of underground services, as well as any potential clashes or risks to the construction of the upgraded railway crossing. If weather is unfavourable, this work will be carried out on a night following.

Traffic Impacts

  • During our work hours, traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work area shown on the map. Temporary traffic lights will be used to manage traffic through the work area. Please expect delays.
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access across the railway crossing will be available, under escorted crossing by our workers. Outside of our work times, safe pedestrian access will be made available.
  • We will need to restrict some on-street parking, so we will place no parking cones out before we start work. We will aim to minimise this as much as possible.
  • Please be on the lookout for changes in traffic management and follow the signs.

Night Works

Work will be carried out at night. The crew need lights to see what they are working on so you may notice extra light coming from the street. There will be noise from trucks, machinery and the crew working overnight.

Due to the high traffic volumes in this area and the narrow road width, work must be completed on night shift. This ensures the safety of our workers and also reduces traffic impacts.

We will aim to complete the most disruptive work in the evenings to keep any overnight disruption to a minimum. We will also aim to complete the work as quickly as we can.

How do we carry out potholing?

During potholing, a hydrovac will be on site. This machine uses high-pressure water and a powerful vacuum to remove soil, which is noisy work.

The soil is then transferred to a debris tank to keep mess to a minimum. This is a safe, non-destructive and accurate way to remove soil or locate underground utilities, such as pipes, electrical cables and phone lines.

Once the services have been located and assessed, the potholes will be backfilled and resurfaced.
