Details

From Monday, 8 July 2024, we will be restoring approximately 600m of the rock seawall along the Sumner Esplanade, between Cave Rock and the Scarborough Clock Tower, to get it back to its original height and provide better protection from swells and storms.

We will also be updating the existing seating along the seaward side of the Esplanade, 4 of which will be installed in locations that will give users wider views of the coastline.

Please find key information about these works below:

  • Construction noise and disturbance may be encountered but the contractor will endeavour to keep this to a minimum.  This will include but not limited to: truck movements, reverse beepers and rock unloading.
  • Tree trimming will take place at the beginning of the project to clear areas for truck movements and rock placement.
  • Truck access will be provided off Heberden Avenue, by Scarborough Fare, so there may be minor traffic delays in this area.
  • The Esplanade walkway will be accessible during these works and over the weekend however, the width will be reduced to allow for truck movements.
  • Pedestrian access to the beach will be maintained: please use the designated crossing points where existing steps/ramps are located.
  • Possible delays to pedestrians when trucks are crossing access points.
  • Please follow the directions provided by the onsite traffic management team at all times.
  • Some of our works may be affected by tidal movements.
