Details

Streets for People Aranui is to create safer and more accessible environments for walking and cycling, and to reduce vehicle speeds and volumes in places where pedestrian numbers are high.

The Streets for People project trialled a number of safety interventions across Aranui. The permanent design was approved by the Waitai Coastal-Burwood Community Board on June 10 based on the feedback received during construction, consultation and the trial period done earlier in the year.

The permanent design will include 13 permanent concrete kerb build outs outlined in the map below. This will be widening the intersection narrowing by 600mm and removing the temporary bollards with permanent kerb build outs. This will ensure that the interventions allow for safe crossing distance and allowing users to easily move around the area.

Work will take place Monday to Friday from 6am to 7pm.

We are anticipating works to be between 7 - 9 weeks commencing 21 June and finishing mid- August which will be managed by HEB and their subcontractors. The timing of the work and certain activities is weather and road dependent and we will provide regular updates throughout construction to ensure minimum disturbance is caused.

The majority of the work will happen during these hours. There is the possibility a small amount of work will need to be done after 7pm and overnight. Another works notice will be issued with details if this is required, and we’ll contact affected residents and businesses directly.

Traffic Impacts

  • During construction for this work, some street parking will be unavailable while we install the interventions. We will try to minimise our disturbance as much as possible whilst working in the area.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • Please look out for HEB staff and follow signage on site. If you need any assistance please approach a staff member who will be able to assist.

Please advise as soon as possible if you have any specific requirements for property access during the time we install the materials in the street, including medical visits, large vehicle deliveries/moving, or other planned work on your property. We thank you for your patience whilst we complete these works.
