Hereford Street - tree plantings

What

Installation and planting of 12 Tilia platyphyllos trees within tree pits that will be built into the road along Hereford Street.

Why

To plant street trees that increase green space and tree coverage in the neighbourhood whilst improving the ecological health and shading of the area.

Where

Hereford Street (between Fitzgerald Avenue and Linwood Avenue), Christchurch Central City.

When

17 June 2024 to 8 July 2024. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

During the Tree Planting

  • There will be increased noise, dust, and vibration from the use of machinery for activities such as saw cutting, hydro excavation, and plate compaction. 
  • These works are subject to fine weather; this is needed to undertake the kerb, sealing and excavation works.

Hours of work

  • Day Shift work – Monday to Friday, from 7am to 6pm.

Traffic Impacts

  • On-street parking will be affected where we are working and road cones will indicate where parking will not be available.  
  • Speed will be reduced to 30km/h through the work area. 
  • Pedestrian access to footpaths will be maintained at all times with detours in place from time to time. Please follow signage.
  • We will keep work areas small where possible. 

Property access will be maintained where possible. We will work with businesses and residents during the work.
