What |
We’ll be working on the road to install a range of intersection safety improvements, including a safe speed platform across the intersection. Traffic access through the intersection will be maintained for the majority of the project. |
---|---|
Why |
The safe speed platform will encourage drivers to travel at a safer speed, providing people more time to react and avoid a crash. At lower speeds, there is also a better chance of people surviving a crash. This helps protect all road users, including pedestrians walking to school, preschool, or local shops. |
Where |
Shirley Road, Hills Road, and Warrington Street intersection, Mairehau. |
When |
20 May 2024 to 24 June 2024, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 7pm (weather/site condition dependent). See below for more information on the project’s timeline. |
Contact |
The contractor is Isaac Construction. Phone Elizabeth Mullan on 027 406 2465, Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm, or email communications@isaac.co.nz. |
The scope of works will include the installation of a safe speed platform across the intersection; a raised pedestrian crossing on the slip lane from Shirley Road to Hills Road; traffic calming on the slip lane from Hills Road to Shirley Road, including a speed cushion, speed hump and kerb build-out; tactile pavers; and new traffic signals.
We’ll also be widening the footpaths and median islands to create a narrower approach to the intersection.
To minimise the need to come back again in the future, we’ll install new, additional stormwater infrastructure.
This project was approved by the Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board on 15 February 2024.
