Bus Route 28 - bus stop improvements

Our contractors will be working in your area to make improvements to bus stops and pedestrian safety along route 28. The improvements will be tailored to the specific needs of each stop and may include line marking, signage, installation of tactile pavers, storm water drainage, kerb modifications, renewal of the bus stop shelters and seats in selected locations, pedestrian refuge islands, and new seats and shelters.

Our main goal is to make bus stops safer and more accessible for those who rely on public transportation, as well as for pedestrians who use these areas.

Work will start from April and will be completed in late September.
Depending on the extent of work needed at each bus stop, work should be completed in 2-3 days for most, with more extensive upgrades taking 5-10 days. Hours of work will be between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday (weather/site conditions dependent). If night works are required to complete this work, we’ll let you know in advance.

The contractor is Fulton Hogan Ltd. Phone 03 336 5268, Monday to Friday, 7am and 7pm.
If you have any specific property access requirements, such as medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries, or planned works, please let us know. We hope that these improvements will enhance the safety and convenience of the route for all commuters, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation during the construction period.

During the upgrade of the bus stops:

  • Temporary bus stops will be installed when work is being undertaken at the existing bus stops. Signage will indicate where the bus stop has moved to. Please allow extra time to get to the stop.
  • There will be increased noise, dust, and vibration from the use of machinery for activities such as saw cutting, hydro excavation, and plate compaction.

Hours of work:

  • Day shift work – Monday to Saturday, from 7am to 6pm.
  • We will let you know in advance if night works are required to complete this work.

Traffic Impacts:

  • On-street parking will be affected where we are working and road cones will indicate where parking will not be available.
  • Cyclists will be merged with the traffic lanes. Please drive and ride with care.
  • Speed will be reduced to 30km/h through the work area.
  • Pedestrian access to footpaths will be maintained at all times with detours in place from time to time. Please follow signage.
  • We will keep work areas small where possible.
  • Property access will be maintained where possible. We will work with businesses and residents during the work. Please let us know if you have any specific property access needs e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or planned works.
