From February to June 2023, contractors will be working on a section of Cashmere Stream on 564 and 482a Cashmere Road. They will be realigning the channel, creating instream habitat, planting a native riparian corridor, and continuing to build a network of paths.
These are the final stages of the Cashmere Stream project being co-funded by the Ministry for the Environment. The overall goal of the project is to enhance Cashmere Stream and improve the health of the stream, enhancing and providing diverse new habitat for native plants and animals.
Alongside the stream enhancement work, a new 100-hectare flood storage and stormwater treatment area is being developed between Cashmere Road and Sutherlands Road. This will help reduce the risk of flooding in the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River catchment, and capture and reduce sediment running into the stream. Once complete, the area will also provide a network of walking and cycling paths and green spaces alongside the stream and around the wetlands.
The detailed design plans for stages 3 and 4, and further details about the project, are available at:

Please note that the work area will be fenced off to keep everyone safe. Please follow all safety signage and instructions on site.
