We’re reconstructing Athelstan Street and a section of Simeon Street to make these roads stronger and safer for everyone.
Key information
We started road rehabilitation in November 2024, but the ground conditions beneath the road were a lot worse than we were expecting. Our plan was to dig up the road, stabilise the foundation and reseal the surface by early December 2024.
However, we needed to make repairs to the foundation of the road before we were able to continue with our programmed rehabilitation project early in 2025. Our foundation repair work is now finished, so we'll provide more information about the timing and scope of this work closer to the time.
The contractor working on behalf of Christchurch City Council is Higgins Contractors Ltd.
