We’re reconstructing Athelstan Street and a section of Simeon Street to make these roads stronger and safer for everyone.

Key information

We started road rehabilitation night work on Sunday 18 November, but ground conditions beneath the road were a lot worse than we were expecting. Our plan was to dig up the road, stabilise the foundation and reseal the surface by early December.

However, we now need to make repairs to the foundation of the road before we can continue with our programmed rehabilitation project.

We'll be working between 7am–6pm (Monday to Friday) until Wednesday 11 December. We'll no longer be working at night during this period of work.

As we're approaching the busy end-of-year holiday season, we're deferring the rest of the road rehabilitation works on Athelstan and Simeon streets until early next year.

We'll be doing some further minor pavement investigation works from now until 25 December. We'll provide another notice about this to directly affected residents and businesses.

Traffic impacts

  • We're using a one-way stop/go system during this period of work.
  • Residential vehicle access within the worksite will be unavailable. Limited on street parking will be available and we'll have a designated parking area within Barrington Mall.
  • Please let us know if you have any specific requirements for property access, such as for medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries/moving, or other planned work on your property.
  • Work will be rescheduled if the weather is bad.
  • Surfaces may be uneven at times, but we will aim to minimise this.
