Christchurch City Council fees and charges for marine facilities for 2024/2025

Wharfs

Rate per surveyed passenger head per vessel per day (Seasonal) – per person $2.80
With a minimum charge per vessel (Seasonal)  $660.00
Regular charter operators  
Rate per surveyed passenger head per vessel (Annual); or $220.00
Minimum charge per vessel (Annual) $1045.00
  • The casual charter operator rate applies for up to eight weeks. If longer than eight weeks, the operator is considered regular.
  • Rate excludes berthage. 
  • Maximum time alongside the wharf is one hour.
  • Operators who do not have alternative overnight berthage will be charged an additional overnight berthage rate. 
  • Casual charter operators who wish to use the wharf landing must give priority to the regular operator and the scheduled timetable.
 
Commercial operators  
Boat Length less than 10m – Seasonal $660.00
Boat Length less than 10m – Annual $990.00
Boat Length greater than 10m – Seasonal $1045.00
Boat Length greater than 10m – Annual $1,430.00
  • Includes fishing, passenger, and service vessels.
  • The rate applies to those vessels with access to a swing mooring. 
  • The rate provides for set down of catches.
  • Maximum time alongside the wharf of one hour, apart from maintenance periods.
  • The seasonal rate applies for up to six months of consecutive usage. 
  • Council reserves the right to negotiate the rate depending on the size of the vessel and/or the number of passenger visits or length of use.
 
Passenger cruise vessels

The council reserves the right to negotiate a higher rate depending on the size of the passenger cruise vessel, the number of annual visits or the length of stay.

 

Charges include additional amenity contributions to reflect increased services provided to meet additional usage of amenities during vessel visits.

 
Commercial/Charter operator – overnight or temporary berthage  
Boat Length less than 10m – per night $60.50
Boat Length greater than 10m – per night $88.00
Rates to apply for a maximum period of 7 consecutive days. For periods greater than 7 days, rates are by arrangement with an authorised officer of the Council.  
Recreation boats  
Per night $55.00
  • Private vessels that are not used commercially and require temporary overnight berthage. 
  • Maximum stay of seven nights.
  • During daylight hours, vessels are only permitted to lay alongside the wharf for a maximum of one hour, unless undertaking maintenance.
 
Service vehicles  
Per annum fee $1034.00
Vehicles over four tonnes will be required to pay an annual access charge to use the Akaroa wharf due to the size and wear and tear on the wharf – Per annum fee
