Councillor and Community Board candidates for Banks Peninsula Ward in the 2022 local elections.

Banks Peninsula Ward - Councillor (1 vacancy)

Jeremy DYER

Jeremy DYER

My principal place of residence is in the Banks Peninsula Ward area.

Banks Peninsula deserves a strong independent voice, a vote for me ensures independent decision making driven by a vision for our future.
I have worked in Lyttelton harbour for 20 years, operating the iconic Ōtoromiro Hotel. As a current publican I'd be replacing a former publican. We have your ear, we're professionals at this and it would be my honour to represent your concerns and aspirations.
Our post-earthquake city is re-emerging, however the pandemic has stymied it's vibrancy.
I want to promote more public performance and art. I have a plan and policies for our Arts community to live and thrive here.
Promoting business and protecting our natural environment is not mutually exclusive. I would strive to protect our wildlife and stimulate native reforestation, eliminating pests and promoting zero emissions targets for the generations who follow and will seek to utilise existing infrastructure to initiate a thriving public transportation service.

As a fourth generation Lytteltonian my love for our Peninsula runs deep. I have worked hard on our Community Board to value our environment, strengthen our partnership with hapü, honour our heritage, and fight for core infrastructure and services.
I will continue to support the things that help us build prosperous communities and prepare us for the challenges of climate change.
After a decade working as an analyst in London's financial district, I gained a master's degree in social work, supporting our most vulnerable young people and their families. These experiences have taught me to deliver under pressure in tough situations and build rewarding relationships with people from all walks of life, which will serve me well on our Council.
I pledge to listen to and learn from you, to protect our environment and special character, and give it everything fighting for what our Peninsula needs and deserves.

Our communities are facing challenges and change. Our response will define us.
As a pragmatic independent, I'm solutions focused - not politically driven. Working together as a community is where we draw strength. I'm ready to lead that effort.
You've told me that we need modern infrastructure that works; clean water to drink. Your rates money must be spent smarter, and Banks Peninsula needs to receive its fair share. I will provide a strong focus on the practical everyday realities. The things that really matter.

Your Voice for Banks Peninsula

Victoria (Tori) PEDEN

My principal place of residence is in the Banks Peninsula Ward area.

Having spent six years on the community board and many years in community roles, I know how important it is to have a strong voice to share concerns and advocate for the community. Our homes, businesses, schools, and remote communities need someone that understands how different our lives are in Lyttelton, the bays and on the Peninsula compared to the city.
We must plan for more storms, floods, and droughts, as they have impact on us all. Climate change is happening now, we need to ensure we are addressing issues to protect our future.
Being resilient, resourceful, and prepared will help us grow stronger and be able to live in this natural beauty that we call home.
Council spending needs to prioritise our infrastructure, environment, and community wellbeing.
This work will be my priority and I need your vote to make it happen. I am your voice

Living in Banks Peninsula is a blessing. Our diverse communities and environment needs protecting and promoting.
I am a 38 year old country kid who says it how he sees it. I currently juggle sitting on the community board and being a builder within the BP. I have 3 amazing kids that I want to grow up and be proud of where they live and the quality level of services provided, like roading, communications and infrastructure. Being involved with amazing organisations like Orton Bradley Park and the newly formed Te Ahu Patiki trust has driven me to stand for councillor so I can implement some common sense and practical solutions with in the council. I don't have a campaign manager nor have I spent money on signs or billboards which will become land fill in a few weeks. So lets unite and make some positive changes.

Jason CREW

Jason CREW

My principal place of residence is in the Akaroa subdivision of the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board area.

Our family moved from Christchurch to Akaroa in 2020. I have always had a connection with the area as my mother was born in Le Bons Bay and got her first job in Akaroa, my grandfather was also born in the area. I have spent many summers roaming the hills and exploring the peninsula and love the sense of freedom and community that each of the bays have to offer. With that in mind I offer my service to this fantastic part of the country with a view to maintain a viable option for my children to thrive, explore, and get the sense of freedom I had as a child. I will listen to the needs of the community and put my best foot forward to ensure all voices are heard. We all have a responsibility to preserve the sense of community and inclusiveness.

Reuben DAVIDSON

My principal place of residence is in the Lyttelton subdivision of the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board area.

I love Lyttelton and I've really enjoyed my first term on the Community Board. We've worked to get the Naval Point development started, supported local community groups, improved our bus services and increased safety around Lyttelton. That said, there is still more to do.
My background involves producing children's TV shows like What Now, Fanimals and Brain Busters. I work with children and animals every day and I love it. My television industry experience has given me skills to organise and collaborate with a diverse mix of people.
I know from talking with other Lyttelton residents that repairs to our roads and water infrastructure, protecting our local pool and library hours and acting now to address the challenges of climate change, are the most important issues for our community.
I'm in Lyttelton every day, so feel free to get in touch via www.lyttelton.online or 0272555899.

My principal place of residence is in the Lyttelton subdivision of the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board area.

I am solutions focused, I genuinely love Lyttelton.
One that is willing to hear what people need, one that is strong enough to be your voice and committed to take action to produce results. It's important that what we choose today has a positive impact in determining our future. As Chairperson of a local association, I have lived with and hear all the concerns of our local community on a daily basis, our family is a huge advocate of all things local! My husband was born at Cressy House, so I feel connected to this community. Focused on not only retaining all that Lyttelton offers, but helping to grow and nurture our community and environment. We need practical solutions, collaborations with residents and businesses alike. Being self-employed, working locally and over the hill, means I can commit, without distractions to represent our community. Together lets, restore, refresh and refocus.

Mount Herbert Community Subdivision - Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board (2 vacancies)

Howard NEEDHAM

Howard NEEDHAM

My principal place of residence is in the Mt Herbert subdivison of the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board area.

I have spent 3 years fighting for the Banks Peninsula community with the Community Board.
There has been some success but there is still a lot more to do.
Our communities are growing but the council is not investing in our infrastructure. The one main road needs urgent upgrading, including flood protection. You should be able to walk along Marine drive without the risk of being hit by a car. It's time for safe footpaths. Our communities from Governors Bay to Purau need access to high speed and reliable broadband internet.
The development of the Hunters road site will be a contentious issue with some councillors wanting to sell it off and let the developer do as they please. I have always fought for a restricted approach with infrastructure investment before wholesale population increase.
I stand against financial stupidity but the investment in core community projects, needs to be increased.

Kia ora! I have lived in Rapaki for much of my life, with my whānau living exclusively in this area for several generations. Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū/Banks Peninsula is very much a part of my DNA - it is where we gather our kai, welcome our manuhiri, raise our children, and bury our loved ones.
Over the years, our home - and its people - have witnessed significant change, demands on our environment, our infrastructure, and our services. Improving the quality of our environment, whilst building sustainable infrastructure to support our needs, is a priority. Ensuring that our roads are well maintained and safe is absolutely vital as we move towards our future.
The Peninsula, and its people, have always been unique - it's a place where you are welcomed, regardless of who you are or where you come from. We are all kaitiaki of this place - let's work together to protect it.

Ben MARSH

My principal place of residence is in the Wairewa subdivision of the Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula Community Board area.

I'm standing for the Little River/Wairewa community board position as I am keen to be a strong advocate for the area and have our local concerns and interests well represented at the council level.
Our community has felt overlooked or unheard at the local government level on many issues such as flooding protection measures, speed limit changes, dairy intensification by the lake etc. As a community board member I would do my best to make sure our unique combination of concerns and interests are brought to the table at council wherever possible.
Likewise I would love to champion proactive causes and efforts for the region where there might be avenues for the council to support local initiatives and businesses.
