Councillor and Community Board candidates for the Spreydon Ward in the 2025 local elections.
Spreydon Ward Councillor.
The People's Choice - Labour
My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward area.
As the current Councillor for Spreydon, I’ve worked hard to support our community — helping to establish local groups, protect valued facilities, and promote inclusive, local democracy.
With a PhD in biochemistry and experience as the director of my own education business, AHeadStart Ltd, I bring both scientific insight and practical leadership to Council.
My top priorities include retaining our strategic assets, ensuring access to pure drinking water through reliable infrastructure, supporting clean waterways and healthy ecosystems, investing in accessible parks and recreation, acting on climate change, and improving transport options so everyone can travel safely.
We need to get the basics right: fixing footpaths, repairing roads, and making long-term financially responsible decisions.
I’m committed to keeping our community strong, sustainable, and connected.
Your vote will help me continue to advocate for our community and make sure our city remains a great place to live.

My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward area. I am also standing for Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board.
Kia ora, I’m Terry Craze. I’m 37, visually impaired, a Christian, and was raised by a single parent in Greymouth. I’ve called Christchurch home since I was 18, most of that time right here in Spreydon. I currently rent in Addington and previously lived in a Housing New Zealand home for nine years.
Coming from a proud West Coast political family, I’ve always stood for workers’ rights and keeping the cost of living down. I’ll fight for practical, community-focused solutions: capitalising on Christchurch’s infrastructure, cancelling new speed bumps down Broughton Street, restoring free central city parking, and ensuring clean water for all. I’ll also create a safe pick-up/drop-off zone at Addington School — where my son attends.
If elected, I’ll use the $122k salary to rent a local office, because accessibility matters. You deserve transparency, approachability, and visible governance.
Let’s bring common sense back. Vote Terry Craze for Spreydon Council.
Leave Commonwealth, leave Anzus
My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward area. I am also standing for Mayor and Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board.
We support King Charles and Queen Camilla about whom I have actually written a song based on the tune GreenSleeves. It is good.
This row is about the hard drinking old guard of the British Military responsible for the security of the commonwealth, with a first past the post mentality, considering all 3rd party candidates a Security Risk. I doubt if there has ever been a policy against Britian here, in New Zealand, apart from me complaining about Constant-Repair-mobils. If the English build good trains and push-bikes, cars should be the same. I have two English cars.
We do not need English Special Agents coming here and spiking the tea in dangerous Jobs, Stinging people with masers, or using a hot ray against people. The police do not have the gear to detect this, and there is none on order.
The Americans need to stop doing U-turns on Pedestrians crossing.

Christchurch is changing, but not always for the better. Unnecessary speed bumps are everywhere, cycleways are clogging key routes, and shoebox townhouses with no parking are popping up across our neighbourhoods. Our parks are tired, streets are messy, and playgrounds are woke & boring.
Council pours millions into free events, but they’re unappealing for most ratepayers. Meanwhile, costs continue to escalate, and core services are being neglected. It’s time to rein in the spending and focus on what really matters.
I’m standing for Council in the Spreydon Ward to bring back common sense. I’ll fight for reduced travel times, cleaner, more visually pleasing streets, better local amenities and responsible spending that reflects your values, not wasteful pet projects!
You’re already paying your rates. You deserve to get what you want, not what you don’t.

The People's Choice
My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area.
What’s important to you in our local area? For me, the essential things are being involved in community life and working with others to create positive change. This is the approach I will bring to the community board, as someone who enjoys people, likes making a difference and is passionate about the Spreydon ward.
I’m deeply engaged in community life. I work to create connections between families at Addington Primary, getting alongside people who need support. In response to local food security issues, I established a weekly produce stall. I’m the chair of the Addington Farm board, where we bring people together in a supportive, diverse environment.
If I am voted to the community board, I will bring a friendly, approachable manner, and a desire to work with others to create more good in our hood! Vote Sophie for Spreydon!

Coming from a proud political whānau, I’ve always stood for workers’ rights and keeping the cost of living down. I’ll fight for practical, community-focused solutions that reflect the needs of families and neighbourhoods. I’m standing for Spreydon Council, Spreydon Community Board, and Addington School Board because you deserve transparency, approachability, and governance grounded in real lived experience.
Two Ticks Terry — one for Council and one for Community Board. Ngā mihi.
A Bus for Sommerfield
My principal place of residence is in the Spreydon Ward of the Waihoro Spreydon-Cashmere-Heathcote Community Board area. I am also standing for Mayor and Spreydon Ward Councillor.
A Bus for Sommerfield,
There is no bus between Milton St and the Heathcote creek. If we refuse to pay the Environment Canterbury section of our rates, the authorities will send in Debt collectors, accumulating at $30 a visit. Our best plan for a bus for Sommerfield is to not re-elect any members of Environment Canterbury.

I’ve proudly called the Spreydon Ward my home for over 40 years. Born and raised in Christchurch with Cook Island Māori and Irish heritage, I currently live in Rowley with my wife, Fiona, and our two wonderful children, Kahurangi and Māia. For more than a decade, I’ve been privileged to manage Cross Over Trust/Origin Sport, driving community-led initiatives that bring people together and help neighbourhoods thrive.
My passion lies in creating spaces where all generations can connect. I stay actively involved by cooking Hangi, playing rugby, surfing, mentoring youth, and volunteering in various local groups. Over the years, I’ve supported projects that provide access to community facilities like outdoor BBQs, grandstands, basketball hoops, and lights—building safety, connectedness, and a sense of belonging.
With deep roots in this community, I’m committed to being your voice on Community Board. Together, we can make Spreydon stronger. Vote for me—vote for our community!
