Mark CHIRNSIDE
My principal place of residence is not in the Riccarton Ward area.
I'm standing for council because I believe that Christchurch needs new blood and a new culture of accountability. That might sound familiar, as I said exactly that three years ago. It remains just as true today. Much has changed, but what disappoints me is that so many of the issues we face are the same.
We need to catch up on fixing broken infrastructure, a concrete plan for world class public transport, and we desperately need greater participation in our local politics.
I have a depth of experience bringing people together to achieve exciting, unlikely things. Over the last decade, I've built a thriving coffee business in Riccarton, and I have a deep connection to this place. I've always been so humbled by what can be achieved just by tapping into the extraordinary talent I've found here.
Vote for an energetic, connected, and united Riccarton.

My principal place of residence is in the Riccarton Ward area.
I’m standing again because I believe Riccarton deserves consistent, people-first leadership, someone who turns up, listens, and delivers for our neighbourhoods. Over the past three years, I’ve worked alongside our communities to resolve more than 100 local issues and push for long-overdue upgrades. But this next term is about more than fixing what’s broken, it’s about building what’s possible.
I’ll focus on safer streets, clean water, better transport, thriving local businesses, and green spaces that connect us. Riccarton is one of the most diverse and dynamic parts of our city, and that should be reflected in how we lead and who we listen to.
I bring strong governance experience, a background in community development and business, and a heart for service. I’m committed to making sure we build for us and for those who come after us.
Let’s create a Riccarton every generation can be proud to call home.

My principal place of residence is not in the Riccarton Ward area. I am also standing for Halswell Ward of the Waipuna Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board.
I was first elected on our then named Riccarton Wigram Community Board in 2013.
My 12 years serving you on this board has given me invaluable local knowledge, expertise and accreditation as a Resource Management Commissioner all of which I can bring this experience to the council table.
I support spending on needs over wants, drawing from my own experience paying off my home in 17 years by not spending beyond my means, I’ll bring that same ethos of commonsense spending along with 30 years financial background to council.
I will continue to advocate your concerns for better roading, toxic free drinking water, controlled housing intensification and no more raised intersection platforms.
My interests include playing bridge, aviation, motor racing, attending church, playing in a band that serves the disabled community and Community Patrol
I'm dedicated to serving you with integrity, commonsense and fiscal responsibility.

You deserve a councillor who puts Riccarton first – ahead of political parties or ideology.
I stand as your genuine independent voice, because common-sense and our community’s future should always come before politics.
I’ve lived in Riccarton for over 20 years and for the past three I have fought hard alongside residents to stop poorly planned intensification overwhelming neighbourhoods. Like you, I want sensible, community-led development that fits our area.
My focus is what matters to you most: reducing rates rises, sensible spending, improving basic infrastructure, making footpaths safer, better roads (with fewer speed bumps), supporting community policing and advocating for more trees and green spaces.
With a career in journalism and education I know how to ask the right questions, challenge poor decisions, and communicate clearly.
With your support we can make sure Riccarton is a safe, affordable, and vibrant place to call home.

Originally from Malaysia, I came to New Zealand in 1985 to pursue tertiary education at the University of Canterbury, and I’ve proudly called Christchurch home ever since. Since graduating in the early 1990s, I’ve been self-employed — running a small business and managing residential developments. I’m committed to using that experience to help Christchurch grow into a vibrant, well-balanced city for all. Christchurch is ethnically diverse, and it’s important to have culturally representative voices at the decision-making table. My long-standing leadership in ethnic community groups reflects a deep commitment to building an inclusive city we can all be proud of. As a Rotarian, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the needs of our wider communities firsthand.
Every decision I support will be transparent. I’ll advocate for fair, affordable rates and ensure that ratepayers’ dollars are spent wisely, with clear benefit to all Christchurch residents.

My family has lived in Riccarton for 38 years.
My children and I attended school at St Teresa's Riccarton and I served on the school’s PTA.
I enjoy working with community advocacy. I was the legal researcher who assisted the Hornby Residents successful submission, saving Denton Park from being built on.
Due to my advocacy work, I am familiar and experienced with local council procedures.
The Council is accountable for practical expenditure and I will endeavour to see your rates are used sensibly, with needs before wants, retaining your rates at a sustainable affordable level.
I look forward to communicating and sharing your concerns on issues such as road networks, toxic free drinking water and housing intensification.
My interests include, football, golf, church and camping.
Once elected, I will be privileged to ensure that individually and collectively your voice is heard and professionally represented.

Your Strong, Experienced Advocate with real commitment to Riccarton, where I have lived over 30 years, raising two children.
Deputy Chair of your Community Board, former City Councillor. Accredited for resource consent hearings, I have the planning experience to advocate for our community facing unprecedented government -directed housing intensification.
As Board Chair I presented written and oral submissions against high density rezoning; note medium density is currently under consideration!
I am committed to protecting our residential environment and giving residents a real voice on local decisions. I promoted parking restrictions for residential streets, retention of Wharenui Pool and Council services in the Riccarton Community Centre.
I am passionate about protecting our heritage and strengthening relations with residents from diverse cultures.

I'm Luke Chandler, your current Riccarton Community Board Member, and I'm standing again to keep delivering real results and to make sure your voice is heard.
I'm an IT and employment relations professional, and I also chair Neighbourhood Support Christchurch, where we work to build safer, more connected communities. I’m a strong local advocate who lives in the area and understands what matters to Riccarton residents.
I've attended every board meeting and information session so far, with a track record of action through grassroots projects like Rebuild Christchurch. My approach is simple: I listen, I show up, and I get things done.

Riccarton is the best place to live in Christchurch.
I’ve been lucky to enjoy what it offers - from starting at Ilam School to now completing my law degree at the University of Canterbury.
Through my governance experience with youth councils and advocacy organisations, I bring a steady, informed voice committed to openness and accountability.
Council and Community Board decisions often feel distant. I’ve seen how hard it is for residents to stay engaged, and I want to use my experience navigating these systems to ensure Riccarton residents are heard.
Our neighbourhood’s diversity and vibrancy are its strength, but they also come with a responsibility to plan wisely for the future.
Housing, transport, local business, and green space are changing - we need a Community Board that works hard to protect what matters and make those changes work for us.
Vote for Joseph Fullerton; let’s get Riccarton right.

I have lived all my life but six years in and around Riccarton.
Now we live two doors from a four year old brothel. Customers come night and day, near two large schools, a preschool and a local shop.
It is a risk not to mention the parking and wouldn’t happen in Fendalton. (House prices would drop.)
This is why I stand specifically to try amend the Brothels bylaw. Now it allows owner operators (up to four workers) to set up shop in any area not just the Blenheim Rd planned one.
It appears like a profitable franchise to me if someone can demolish and rebuild one storey, looking like a dentist's, but with six ensuite bedrooms, that was physically connected to the brothel by a series of live extension cords past six houses!
Let’s update this regulation in the light of the reality. If you agree, vote for me.

I grew up in Riccarton and was educated at Wharenui Primary, Kirkwood Intermediate and Christchurch Boys’ High.
Working as a police officer and many roles serving communities, I have gained valuable experience relating to a wide variety of community issues and situations affecting people.
Currently working as a Risk Surveyor I’m trained not only identify problems but to come up with viable solutions.
I’m standing for community board, being concerned for our excessive rate hikes causing unnecessary rent increases and overburdening homeowners.
There is a trend towards housing intensification, with many negative downsides. I will advocate for well planned and designed housing developments, roading infrastructure, such as challenge the over-use of speed humps and over-engineered cycle lanes in the Riccarton Ward.
Finally, I have growing unease over our public and personal safety. I will address this with closer liaison with Community Police and community services.

Riccarton is a special place. I grew up on Kauri Street, went to local schools and worked in local businesses. I’m standing for Community Board with The People’s Choice to offer a fresh, proactive, and collaborative voice.
I’m here to listen, problem solve, and get things done. With a career that spans health care, charity, banking, transport, and government, I’ve worked across sectors and around the world. I want to put these skills to work for the people of Riccarton.
I believe in liveable housing, thriving small businesses, and safe, welcoming streets with good public transport options. I love engaging with, collaborating, and bringing people together. I’m not afraid to challenge the status-quo.
Riccarton has always been a place of energy and opportunity. I will help protect what makes it special and shape a future that reflects the strength and diversity of our community.
