The applicant seeks resource consent to  a comprehensive redevelopment of the Canterbury Museum complex including the Robert McDougall Gallery, consisting of (but not limited to):

  • Alterations to the heritage listed buildings including but not limited to a new opening in the Rolleston Avenue: revealing previously hidden heritage fabric; reinstatement of original heritage spire and chimneys; and alterations to the Roger Duff façade which faces into the Christchurch Botanic Gardens.
  • Demolition of non-heritage listed parts of the complex and their replacement with new buildings.
  • Base isolation across all buildings.
  • A new glazed link between the museum and the Robert McDougall Gallery.
  • Structural, fire, safety and security upgrades

Provision of increased exhibition and café space.
